National Night Out: Keeping your neighborhood safe

National Night Out

It's that time of year again! Neighborhoods across Texas will be gearing up to celebrate National Night Out, an annual event promoting neighborhood safety and crime prevention. Communities will be hosting block parties, social gatherings and backyard cookouts as neighbors get to know one another and discuss ways to keep their neighborhoods safe.

When will National Night Out take place?
For Texans, the 2011 National Night Out event will take place on Tuesday, October 4. More than 400 neighborhoods in Austin will be participating in National Night Out, so be sure to check with your neighborhood association or homeowners association to see if an event is being planned in your area.

How can I organize my own National Night Out party?
Central Texas REALTORS® care about keeping their communities safe. While the application deadline has past to have emergency personnel attend your party, you can still organize your own NNO festivities. The Austin Board of REALTORS® has provided a wealth of resources to help you plan your event, including suggested themes and activities, as well as customizable invitations.

What if I'm unable to host my own National Night Out party?
Austin Energy, the Austin Police Department and the Travis County Sheriffs Department are hosting a free kick-off party that will take place on Tuesday, October 4 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Mueller Master Community, located at 4550 Mueller Blvd., Austin, Texas, 78722. AustinHomeSearch.com will have a booth set up at the party, so be sure to swing by and say hi!

However you choose to celebrate, we hope you'll join your fellow Austinites on October 4 to raise awareness about crime and drug prevention in our neighborhoods. For more information on this event, visit the City of Austin's National Night Out homepage.
