National Night Out
On Tuesday, October 4, 2011, the Austin Board of REALTORS® (ABoR) is encouraging neighborhoods and their residents throughout Austin to join the Austin Police Department (APD), Travis County Sheriff’s Office and thousands of communities nationwide for the 28th annual National Night Out (NNO). A free kick-off event will be hosted from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Mueller Master Community pavilion, located at 4550 Mueller Blvd., Austin, Texas 78722.
Why Host National Night Out?
For generations, block parties have served as a way for neighbors to meet each other, build their communities and discuss important issues. These events are a fun, easy way to build neighborhood spirit and unity.
National Night Out offers a similar arena for communities to come together. National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support and participation in crime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Hosting a local event is a great opportunity for neighborhoods to build cohesive and safe communities. We are encouraging everyone to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and spend the evening outside with their neighbors from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on October 4, 2011.
How Can I Get Involved?
To encourage local REALTORS® and homeowner associations to host their own National Night Out event, ABoR has created event planning guides to help you organize your own block party. View the “National Night Out Resources” and “Downloads” Box at the right for all the materials you’ll need to plan, apply for and organize your National Night Out. For details, contact APD Community Liaison and NNO Coordinator Rosie Salinas at 512-974-4900.
How is ABoR Getting Involved?
The Austin Board of REALTORS® and AustinHomeSearch.com will have a booth at the National Night Out kick-off event to help promote community cohesion and safety. ABoR will be joined by approximately 40 other vendors who have come together to support this worthy cause.
